Rules & Regulations
St. Mary Cemetery was consecrated as sacred space in 1845 and has since been serving the Catholic Community. The Rules & Regulations listed below have been formulated for the good of the majority and the cemetery’s overall beauty. We thank you for your kind cooperation in adhering to them. These Rules and Regulations are intended as a guideline. More detailed rules by the RCAB are on file in the Cemetery Office. Should you have any questions concerning the Rules & Regulations, please do not hesitate to contact the Cemetery Office for clarification.
1. These grounds are consecrated and devoted to the interment of human remains. A strict observance of proper decorum in dress and action which should characterize such a sacred place is asked of all visitors. At no time are pets permitted on the Cemetery grounds.
2. Visiting Hours: The Cemetery is opened from 7:30am to 5:00pm daily.
3. Office Hours: Weekdays: Cemetery Office has limited staffing between the hours of 8:00am and 3:00pm. Appointments are suggested. Please call in advance. Saturdays: The office will be opened by appointment only.
The Cemetery Office is closed and no interments permitted on the following days:
- Sundays throughout the year
- Feast of the Nativity (Christmas Day)
- Octave of Christmas (New Year’s Day)
- Memorial Day
- Fourth of July (Independence Day)
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
4. Planting & Decoration Regulations
a. On monument lots, only annual flowers may be planted the length of the monument and extending out 8” from the front of the monument. Plants such as geraniums, impatiens, marigolds, begonias and ageratum are specifically suited for this purpose. They require minimum care and maintain their beauty all season long. No perennials, shrubs, vines, climbers, edging or growing boundaries are permitted. Any such planting will be removed. No in-ground planting of any kind at Flush Markers.
b. Potted plants are permitted to be placed on graves for the Holy Days and Holidays but will be removed one week after the day of celebration as weather permits.
c. Shrubs and bushes are not permitted on any lots. Trimming of existing shrubs and bushes are the responsibility of the lot owner. These bushes that exceed the height of the monument or become unsightly or encroach on other lots will be removed. Any lot owner who has existing shrubs and wishes them to be removed, please contact the Cemetery Office.
d. Flags for decoration must not exceed 12” x 16” with approved holders on 36” wooden staff at the base of monument. No more than two flags are permitted on any one lot. One must be an American flag. Faded or torn flags will be removed at the sole discretion of the Cemetery Staff.
e. In order to protect the safety of visitors and cemetery personnel, metal plant hangers, banner hangers, wooden crosses, pin-wheels, glass jars, statues, shells, vigil lights, balloons, marble chips and bric-a-brac of any description are not permitted. Any article of this nature placed on lots will be removed.
f. Christmas decorations in the form of a wreath or basket may be placed on lots. These items, as well as all other Christmas decorations, will be removed beginning February 1st.
g. Artificial flowers will be permitted ONLY DURING THE WINTER MONTHS, that is November 1st until one week after Easter.
h. All work on cemetery lots (other than approved garden planting) is to be performed by Cemetery Staff only.
i. Any approved outside contractors working within the Cemetery must be self-insured.
5. Monument Regulations
a. Please contact the office for more detailed rules and regulations regarding monuments.
b. A Memorial Application is required to be filed with the Cemetery Office for any monument or engraving work.
6. Garden of Peace Mausoleum and Columbarium Guidelines
a. Potted plants and fresh flowers are permitted to be placed at the base of the crypt front for Holy Days and Holidays and will be removed one week after the day of celebration, as weather permits.
b. Christmas decorations/artificial flowers – please follow regulations above (4. e, f, and g.) At no time are window boxes, etc. allowed and nothing is to be attached to the crypt or niche fronts.
c. Engraving on crypt fronts and niche fronts is provided by St. Mary Cemetery only.
d. Please contact the office for more detailed Rules & Regulations regarding Garden of Peace Mausoleum and Columbarium.
NOTE: When visiting the Cemetery, all are cautioned to drive slowly. Please park your cars on the wide crossroads only. Please do not park on the grass. Do not leave your car keys, pocketbooks, or any valuables in your car. The Cemetery will assume no responsibility.
The Cemetery Council retains the right to change and add to the existing regulations whenever the need arises and without any prior notice.
